Description: Bob Loveless developed the Chute Knife as a very versatile custom hand made knife. It was designed to be a well balanced knife -- not too heavy, not too light. Chute knives were first made in the 1960s for those flying int the Viet Nam War. The design was developed by Harry Archer (an US Government Operative), Bob Loveless, and Ken Warner. “Chute” stands for parachute, as one of the chute knife's special features, the partial-length upper cutting edge, was designed to help a wayward paratrooper cut away his rigging in an emergency. These knives become popular with airborne and special forces operatives. This Deon Nel Chute Knife shows Nel's work at its best. It works equally well as a hunting knife and for self defense.
Award winning South African knifemaker Deon Nel is considered among the best Loveless style knifemakers anywhere. His understanding of the Loveless designs and sense of balance is particularly good.
Both the blade and full tang are distal tapered for a perfect balance. The Bohler N690 stainless steel was meticulously hollow ground and mirror polished. The clip and edge are razor sharp. N690 ensures a keen long lasting edge with good resistance to chipping. It is a great choice for high performance use knives.
Maroon Micarta scales are set on the distal tapered full tang for strength and durability. Black vulcanized fiber spacers add a nice contrast. The handle is perfectly contoured for a secure, comfortable grip that you won't want to put down. The handle is completed with two Corby bolts and a steel lined lanyard hole. The 303 stainless steel cross guard helps your hand not slip forward onto the blade. The guards include lashing holes, a hallmark of chute knives.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched cowhide sheath.
Exceptional work throughout.
