Description: Hamon Camp Knife with Gemsbok is an exceptional example of Raymond Richard's work. It has an elegance and timeless sense to it that wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker.
The 7.6 inch blade has a graceful slight upsweep. An appleseed grind ensures a very strong cutting edge. A gently undulating line (called a hamon)travels along the blade. This shows the transition between the keen, hard cutting edge and the softer, supportive spine.
The guard and end cap were hand forged from antiqued wrought iron recovered from an 1850s era wagon wheel. The distressed wrought iron has a nearly damascene pattern. The handle is formed from a black gemsbok horn. Gemsbok is a large antelope native to the arid regions of Southern Africa. The natural texture provides a sure, comfortable grip.
Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great balance.
