Description: When I recently visited Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey at their home in Belfast, South Africa, I was very pleased to see that they had some of their knives available. Kevin and Heather teach bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn their techniques.
The 5 inch blade was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. This steel is considered by many knifemakers and knife users to be among the highest performing steels used to make modern knives. The A differential heat treatment ensures a strong edge, supported by the resilience of a softer spine. It features a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish.
The handle is made from African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). The jet black wood is nicely contoured for a secure, comfortable grip. The handle is contoured for a very comfortable grip.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched, embossed cowhide sheath.
