Description: Des Horn is one of the fathers of the South African knife industry. His influence can be clearly seen in other South African's work, but also extends into knives made around the world. Whether put to a daily carry folder or an art knife, his attention to detail and skill is legendary.
The Flipvubu is Des' flipper design Imbuvu -- now using a standard flipper tab instead of a front flipper. The blade is made from Swedish Damasteel which has been double tempered and cryogenically treated in liquid nitrogen. This technique of heat treatment results in an incredibly long lasting edge and high resistance to chipping. The blade is hollow ground for easy maintenance.
The blade is perfectly centered and has silky smooth action. It is easily opened using the flipper mechanism. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. The blade rotates on 32 ball bearings made from silicone nitride (HRC93). These were originally developed for the Space Program. Ceramic bearings ensure this knife retains its smooth opening for many years to come!
Lightning strike carbon fiber scales rest on blue anodized and fileworked titanium liners, keeping this knife light and strong. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect lightning while flying through storms. An elevated jimped thumb ramp provides for a secure thumb purchase. Even the flipper toggle has jimping to ensure the blade flips open with ease every time. The blue anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
