Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Barlow slip joint is a fantastic utility folder. The spear point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed and implemented.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish rivals that of the best makers found anywhere.
The 2.8 inch blade is made from N690 stainless steel hardened to 59HRC with a satin finish. N690 is created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping.
The blade is perfectly centered with a firm half stop -- easily opened with the right handed thumb nick.
The handle is made from stabilized blue dyed giraffe bone secured using pins. A stainless steel escutcheon is inlaid into the left side of the knife. The inlay is flawless. The handle is finished with red fiber spacers that help the bone adjust to humidity and temperature changes.
Exceptional work throughout!
