Description: Andrew Meers is a talented knifemaker originally from Boston, where he studied under Mastersmith JD Smith. A graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, he recently completed a residence at the Appalachian Center for Crafts. Given the skill shown in this enticing fighter, he is clearly on my list of makers to watch!
The dramatic damascus blade is a multi-bar composite. The bold pattern is immediately captivating. The damascus shows both his skills at the grinder and at the forge. The steel clearly shows the influence of Mastersmith JD Smith, who is well known for his skills at creating damascus.
The handle is formed from a solid piece of exhibition grade rosewood. The contoured handle provides a beautiful and comfortable grip. This is a knife you won't want to put down. An oval blade guard (tsuba) and ferrule are formed from O1 carbon steel that has been textured and antiqued. The guard depicts cattails. The ferrule shows lillypads. A mokume gane sepa is put in front of the guard.
Exceptional work throughout!
