Description: JD van Deventer creates unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This flipper is an extremely practical EDC -- designed for daily carry and daily use. Weighing in at just 2.4 oz, it is easy to keep close at hand and not even notice it is in your pocket. The flipper mechanism is easy to operate. The blade is perfectly centered with smooth action and easily flicks out using the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The blade is formed from Rob Thomas Herringbone stainless damascus. The complex pattern is revealed in the grinds and mirror polished in the flats. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
Handle scales are formed from silver strike carbon fiber. This variation of lightning strike carbon fiber has silver toned wire woven through the carbon threads. Zirconium bolsters meet perfectly to the scales. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is highly resistant to corrosion and scuffing. The thin-profiled handle is compact enough to keep in the pocket and never notice it until it is needed. The deep carry titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
