Description: Johann van Deventer, better known as JD, aims to produce unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This flipper is a tactical folder with absolutely exceptional action. The blade is well centered and silky smooth -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous front flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The tanto blade is formed from M390 stainless steel, a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it due to its high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The handle is formed from carved and textured copper set on blue anodized titanium liners. The titanium backbar has been fileworked and differentially anodized to match the scales and liners. The titanium pocket clip is textured and anodized blue to match the liners. It is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
