Description: Mastersmith Aaron Wilburn makes an exceptional knife. He prefers to use natural materials, making his knives truly one-of-a-kind. He considers sole authorship a point of pride – he forges all his own blades, makes all his own damascus, and does all his own leather work.
Wilburn began by hollow grinding the W2 carbon steel into a perfectly proportioned eight inch dagger blade. A traditional clay zone heat treatment results in a clear hamon traveling across the blade. The undulating line shows the transition between soft, supportive steel at the center ridge and hard cutting steel at the edge. The blade has been meticulously hard satin finished.
The guard is made from carbon steel damascus. A damascus spacer matches well with the guard, revealing the many intricate layers. The handle is formed from a single piece of fluted ancient walrus ivory. Twisted pure silver wire is set at the top of each of the flutes. A damascus butt cap secured with a copper finial completes this elegant handle.
The dagger is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath. The back is formed from shark skin. The front is overlaid with alligator. Excellent fit and finish throughout!
