Description: Canadian bladesmith Mark Banfield has a stunning design aesthetic, and his skill is more than equal to the task! Ancient Dagger is an excellent example of Mark's work.
Mark began by forging the 1084 carbon steel blade to shape. The flats of the blade and the central dagger ridge are forge finished while the edge bevels feature an heirloom quality hand rubbed satin finish. This dagger ground blade has been fully sharpened on both sides.
The guard is formed from wrought iron recovered from an 1800s era anchor chain. It was given an acid etch to reveal the underlying structure and then hot blued. The guard is surrounded by textured copper spacers that give it great contrast. The handle combines textured desert ironwood with reindeer leg bone. The bone is wrapped in leather thongs to provide a solid grip. A polished antler spacer separates the ironwood from the leg bone.
Absolutely amazing work!
