Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. Kikuo's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
Hatsushimo is a full size design aimed at everyday utility. It is very nimble in the hand. The blade is made from Kikuo’s personal favorite, OU-31 stain resistant tool steel, and features his hamaguri-ba (convex) grind and a false edge along the top. The OU-31 semi-stainless tool steel blade will have exceptional edge holding. OU-31 is a Japanese PM (powdered metallurgical) steel with micro fine crystalline structure that embodies many of the best attributes needed for knives. The steel is hardened to 64 Hrc (very hard!) and has more than 3 times the toughness of D2.
The handle scales are made from black canvas Micarta, carved for traction and comfort while carrying or using. Expertly placed jimping on the spine provides extra traction for the thumb while Kikuo’s unique paracord lanyard setup ensures extra retention in hand. Accompanied by a kydex sheath with Tek-Lok belt clip.
Hatsushimo is a perfect companion while out on the trail.
