Description: This knife is based on the traditional Japanese daily carry folder, the higo-nokami. It combines new and old techniques and materials to be a uniquely exciting knife. Glenn Waters is an Australian knifemaker that has lived in Japan for decades. His work combines modern and ancient techniques with elements of Japanese culture. This knife was in a private collection since it was made. It is completely mint with no signs of wear at all. By all appearances, the knife could have been made by Glenn yesterday!
The folding kiridashi blade is formed from stainless damascus surrounding a VG10 stainless steel core. It is hardened to Hrc 59, ensuring a keen, long lasting, durable edge. The grinds reveal the many layers of damascus steel. The flats and spine are engraved with butterflies and cherry blossoms.
The bolsters are formed from .950 silver and continue the themes begun on the blade. Lacquered G10 scales feature 24kt gold leaf butterflies. Fileworked anodized titanium liners add a nice contrast. The blade is well centered and side detents hold it in open and closed positions. The handle is completed with a kimono fabric lanyard.
Exceptional work throughout!
