Description: Of the many makers that create Laguiole-style knives, Fontenille Pataud is generally regarded as the best. Each knife is handmade to precision specs and is a work of visual and textural art. All of their knives are made in their workshop in Thiers, France. Their team is comprised of eight skilled craftsmen and apprentices. Gilles Steinberg, owner and master craftsman, manages the group. Keeping the company's size small and employing only the best cutlers keeps the quality and exclusiveness of these knives at a premium level.
This beautiful Issoire folding knife is expertly crafted. This Issoire is a predecessor to the modern Lagioule knife. It features a shepherd's awl as well as a blade. Traditionally the shepherds awl was used for addressing sheep's colic in the field. However, the awl can just as easily be used to punch holes in leather or as a marlin's spike to loosen knots.
The dark toned ebony scales are accented with fine hand-set stainless pins and brushed stainless steel bolsters. The blade is crafted from 440 stainless steel, hardened to 54Hrc. The spring is made from 3mm thick Z20c13 stainless steel. The whole spring is then hand chased with a file – from the tip of the blade to the back bolster. Each knife features hand filework unique to the knife.
This beautiful picnic accessory comes in a leather pouch. Also included is a certificate of authenticity. This makes a wonderful gift that will last a lifetime!
