Description: This knife just won Blade Magazine's "Most Innovative Design Custom Knife of the Year 2013" at Blade Show. This particular piece is the 14th of 20 prototypes made. It uses a non-locking toggle mechanism, and when you grip the handle the knife is secured in a 'locked' open position. For extra security there is a safety that can be engaged. It also has the IKBS ball bearing system, which ensures the action is extremely smooth and the flipping motion incredibly fast. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. When the flipper is pressed, the lower section of the frame moves back and forward in a unique motion. The toggle mechanism is easy to use for both right and left handed users.
Grant and Gavin Hawk are a father and son team. They have been making knives since 1995 in Idaho City, ID. They have many unique mechanisms to their credit, including the Ti Lock, which is produced by Chris Reeve Knives, and their very own Beetle. The blade of their new Links is formed from stainless Elmax, which is a third generation powder metallurgy stainless steel. The granule size of the metal powder is very small, and the performance of Elmax is far superior to S30V. Elmax is much tougher and has far better edge holding. It is an amazing steel!
High tech handles of flame finished titanium are topped with carbon fiber. Greys, blues, and carbon fiber all come together to give a futuristic appeal. Brilliant blue anodized internal parts, spacers, and double thumb studs complement the vision. A high tech pocket clip keeps the knife accessible, and is mounted for tip down carry and can be moved to either side (for right or left handed use). An awesome piece that will surely be your new favorite -- not to mention a prototype of things to come from this team!
