Description: Bob Lay's knives are in high demand by both collectors and users. His designs are well thought through, rigorously field tested, and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. This large Bowie knife has been in a single collection and has been meticulously cared for. It does not appear to have ever been used to cut. This bowie was made without a sheath or storage case at the original owner's request. It is priced to move!
The 8-1/2 inch clip point blade was built to swing. It has excellent heft. By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The clip is fully sharpened.
A vera handle is formed around a hidden tang for durability and resilience. Vera or Argentine Lignum Vitae is the second densest exotic wood in the World. It has a tremendous grain pattern similar to the hairs on a boar's back. A brass bolster and butt cap complement the honey and chocolate tones of the vera wood perfectly. Alternating black fiber and brass spacers assist the handle to adjust to humidity and temperature changes. A buffalo horn spacer adds excellent contrast.
Exceptional work throughout.
