Description: Aaron Wilburn was honored as a ABS Journeyman Smith in June of 2009. After attending a seminar lead by Mastersmith Joe Keesler on rasp knives and Joe's Brut de Forge style, Aaron was immediately inspired.
Aaron began this Tactical Brut de Forge by forging the blade to shape from W2 carbon steel. The integral choil is nicely rounded for an extremely comfortable grip. The blade was differentially heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique where the spine is coated with insulating clay prior to quenching. This results in a soft, supportive spine, and keen, long lasting edge. The undulating heat treatment line (hamon) is particularly dramatic. The grinds are hand satin finished. The flats feature an intriguing forge finish.
The full tang is distal tapered for optimal balance. Green canvas scales are set on red fiber spacers. The carved handle is nicely sculpted to swell at the palm and toward the butt. It is finished with two Loveless style fasteners and a lanyard hole. This will make a serious field knife for the avid hunter, but will feel at home in most any collection.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
