Description: Bob Lay's knives are in high demand by both collectors and users. His designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. This Small Fighter is a particularly rare example of Bob's work. It has been in a single collection and is in mint condition. Bob only rarely works with brass fittings. All the more rare is finding one of Bob's damascus blades! In the many years that Bob's knives have graced Bladegallery, very few of his fine pieces have featured damascus blades … and this is a particularly lovely piece. This small fighter, with its classic design and rich colors, will feel at home in any collection.
The blade was formed from damascus forged by Lee Ferguson, who has been forging steel since 1990. The bold damascus pattern is heat blued to purple, gold and silver tones. The fine silver-toned lines traveling across the blade almost resemble fingerprints with the addition of Bob's masterful grind lines. Not just beautiful steel, this damascus is also capable of holding a high performance edge.
A highly polished brass guard is fitted perfectly to the blade. The nicely contoured handle is formed from dark toned Macassar ebony. Alternating black fiber and brass spacers assist the handle to adjust to humidity and temperature changes. The handle is completed with a brass end cap. A stunning example of Bob Lay's work at its best!
