Description: Mastersmith Ed Fowler's name has become synonymous with high performance. Since his earliest work, he strove to make the perfect working tool -- and many feel that he succeeded.
This rare find is a dream for Ed's collectors. This early Pronghorn was made in 1996, after his switch to 52100. It was cherished in a private collection. Both the knife and sheath are in new condition. The knife was recently buffed by Ed.
This Pronghorn was forged from 52100 carbon steel. This is a high carbon, high chrome steel in a very pure form and results in a knife steel that is as good as it gets. The blade was forged at low temperature and was subjected to a minimum of 30 low temp thermal cycles, which required a lot of hammer work. The blade was carefully hardened three times using a differential hardening technique developed for this steel. Triple tempered to push the steel to the limit, the blade is easy to sharpen, yet holds an edge better than any I have tested. The Pronghorn style blade is nicely defined with a slight recurve. It is marked on the left side with Ed's mark. The brass bolsters are carefully engraved with an eight branch Willow Bow.
The sheep horn handle fits comfortably into the hand. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. The spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
