Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor's Bat Claw Fighters have long been among my favorite knife designs. The Pterodactyl Claw is a modification of his renowned Bat Claw, and incorporates a push dagger design. The sleek shape is exceptionally comfortable and maneuverable.
The W2 carbon steel blade was forged to shape and differentially heat treated using the traditional Japanese clay technique. This method results in a gently undulating transition line called a hamon. The hamon travels along both edges of the fully sharpened blade. The ricasso and tang have both been hammer textured for a very dramatic appearance, contrasting with the satin finish of the blade. Mammoth ivory bark scales complement the hammer texture of the metal and the handle fills the hand comfortably. Screws are hammer finished to match. The blade has a strong distal taper so as to bring the weight back into the handle. This knife is numbered 1015 (15th fixed blade of 2010). Exceptional work throughout!
