Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship.
Stabilized spalted maple burl is nicely complimented by blonde sheep horn. By stabilizing the convoluted wood, Bob created a knife that will hold up well to the high demands of a hunting knife. Alternating nickel silver and black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity. The stainless steel guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand.
Bob recently began using a wider range of steels including ATS-34 and CPM154. This CPM 154 powdered metallurgical steel has a smaller grain structure allowing the blade to be keener and hold the edge longer. The blade has been tempered to 59 Rc for optimal edge retention. By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The spine has been hand fileworked, providing a secure thumb purchase. Accompanied by hand tooled sheath, cordura storage pouch, and certificate from the maker.
