Description: Bob Lay's Bowie knives are very hard to come by. He only makes 2-3 per year. When he does put his skill toward creating a Bowie, the results are exceptional, showing off designs that are well thought out and showing an amazing degree of craftsmanship.
The spalted maple burl handle has a dramatic, swirling grain pattern with black spalted lines moving through the wood. This is nicely complemented by the jet black buffalo horn spacer. The stainless steel guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand. By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. Bob recently upgraded his steel of choice from 440C to CPM154. This powdered metallurgical steel has a smaller grain structure allowing the blade to be keener and hold the edge longer. The blade has been tempered to 59 Rc for optimal edge retention. Accompanied by certificate from the maker and a cordura storage pouch.
