Description: Jonny Walker Nilsson is a master of Sami-style knives. Perhaps most desired of his work are full horn hunters. These knives offer challenges not encountered with other knives. Reindeer antler of a size that can be used for full horn knives is near impossible to come by. The traditional Scandinavian pattern on the sheath and handle is hand engraving darkened with pine bark powder (rather than scrimshaw, which is comparatively simpler to execute). The engraving is incredibly clear with tremendous complexity. Patterns that are consistent, yet progress in size (such as the central image at the base of the sheath) are particularly difficult and show Jonny's skill at its best. The handle is very traditional for the Nordic blades having a slim oval shape that fits very comfortably into the hand.
The mosaic damascus blade is a san mai -- meaning that layers of mosaic damascus surround a 20C carbon steel core. This technique results in a particularly dramatic blade with exceptional edge holding. Mosaic damascus lizards crawl across the damascus blade.
Exceptional work throughout!
