Description: Goethe's Faust is considered by many to be one of the greatest works of German literature. First published in 1806, the play tells the story of the temptation of Dr. Faust, a scholar, by Mephistopheles. Faust faces a series of ordeals and falls in love with Margarita.
Renowned metal sculptor Josef Rusnak created this dramatic interpretation of Mephisto through carved .925 sterling silver, fossil mammoth ivory and stainless steel. The dagger shaped blade was meticulously formed from stainless steel to depict flames. Mephistopheles is carved from pristine fossil mammoth ivory. This is some of the best carving that I have ever seen. The snarling face is extremely life-like and depicts a sneering smile beneath a detailed mustache. The fingers are particularly detailed. His tunic shows natural folds in the cloth and he stands with a sword at his side. As is traditional, his right foot is shown with a cloven hoof. The blade slides into a silver plated cast bronze pedestal.
Rusnak also made a Margarita Desk Knife. These one-of-a-kind knives may either be purchased together (with a $200 discount) as a set or individually. You can see the Faust Desk Set or the Margarita Desk Knife by clicking on their links.
Exceptional work throughout!
