Description: This is an exceptional Japanese influenced Bowie from up-and-coming maker Chuck Richards. The blade was hand forged to shape using his own San Mai steel. This technique creates an ultra-hard center core (in this case, W2 carbon steel) surrounded by softer, supportive steel (11,875 layer Damascus forged from medium carbon steels). The ultra-high layer count creates a tremendously detailed "ghost" of a pattern. The transition line from W2 to Damascus is approximately 1/2 way up the blade. Finally, the blade was clay heat treated using the traditional Japanese technique. This increases ductility of the spine, while give the edge ever greater edge holding. A bronze oval guard and ferrule bring out bright tones in the curly koa. The handle has been nicely rounded and sculpted to fit perfectly in the hand. Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
