Description: This majestic Japanese-influenced katana is the work of Michael Rader, who was honored as a Journeyman Smith in June 2006. Michael's work combines aesthetics drawn from Medieval and Far East influences, melding them together into dramatic pieces that are immediately identifiable as his vision.
Michael hand forged the long, slender blade to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many knifemakers and collectors feel that this is the ideal steel for holding a razor sharp edge. The blade was meticulously hand satin finished. A triple temper assures the steel will perform at its best..
The tsuba was cast by Michael from bronze. The handle incorporates Peruvian walnut and curly maple. Michael's superior woodworking is a hallmark of his style. The woods are meticulously combined in complex arches -- with the seams nearly beyond perception. The saya is meticulously fit and formed from matching woods. Exceptional work throughout!
