Description: George Wostenholm was arguably the greatest of England's cutlery manufacturers, working under the trade mark l*XL, an old mark once belonging to W.A.Smith in 1787. He quickly made this mark world renowned. During the period 1830-60 Wostenholm added the Bowie knife to its cutlery line. The knife became increasingly popular in America, but no American company was able equal the artistry and quality of the Sheffield manufactures. This one product meant the firm in 1862 was almost exclusively selling to an American market.
This replica of the Wostenholm double edge Bowie is a masterpiece. PJ describes it as one of the best knives that he has ever created. The 52100 carbon steel blade was forged to shape and will have exceptional edge retention. The smooth satin finish is meticulous. The stainless steel oval guard is satin finished. The distal tapered tang pulls the weight out of the handle and into the large blade. The finger groove in the handle assures an exceptional hold. Sambar stag of this quality and size simply is not found anymore. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
