Description: Coming back from the Blade show with mastersmith test knives is one of my great highlights of the year. In 2005, four new mastersmiths joined the ranks. Five knives were made by each applicant that are the height of their work. These knives were judged by ABS Mastersmiths on fit and finish, as well as general artistry. The standards are exacting. The Texas Cowboy Bowie is one of the knives that John chose to represent his work in this prestigious test.
As you would expect, the fit and finish is exceptional. The deep bellied blade was forged to shape from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steel into a detailed wolf tooth pattern. The blade is exceptionally high contrast. On the left, John's mark ("Horrigan, J.S."). On the right side is "2005". Exhibition grade desert ironwood scales are set on the full tang. A masterpiece!
