Description: Mastersmith Ed Fowler's name has become synonymous with the height of performance. Since his earliest work, he strove to make the perfect working tool -- and many feel that he has succeeded.
This rare find is a dream for Ed's collectors. This early bird and trout was made sometime between 1982 and 1984 while Ed was a journeyman smith. It has been in another mastersmith's personal collection since it was made and has never been used to cut anything. It has never been sharpened, or worked on in any way. It is in mint condition.
This knife was made before Ed had made his acquaintance with 52100 carbon steel. The blade is forged to shape from 5160 carbon steel. The slender blade would be exceptional for detailed tasks. It is marked on the right side with Ed's mark. The brass bolsters are carefully engraved.
The sheep horn handle fits comfortably into the hand. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. The spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
