Description: Mastersmith Hank Knickmeyer is well known for creating some of the most creative and detailed Damascus found anywhere. In fact, the first time that I saw mosaic Damascus being created, it was at a session led by Hank at one of Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley's hammer-ins. The Damascus used throughout this gent's folder is Hank's "butterflies and flowers" pattern mosaic Damascus. "HK" is interspersed with butterfly and flower images along with many other detailed patterns. The edge bar is "Twist" pattern Damascus forged from 1084 and L6 carbon steels. This mixture results in an optimal carbon ratio, which in turn leads to an edge that holds up very well under use.
The blade is perfectly centered and has optimal action for a slip joint folder. This mechanism allows the maker to create a folder that is sleeker in the hand. There is a stop at 90 and 180 degrees. Brass pins bring warm tones to the piece. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
