Description: Koji Hara's inimitable style has won him admiration from collectors and fellow makers alike. He consistently creates knives that are renowned for their precision, craftsmanship, and performance.
This new model from Koji incorporates modern influence into Koji's unmistakable art style. There are three different ways to deploy the blade on this knife. Ambidextrous fullers allow you to pinch blade for a more gentleman-style opening. A standard flipper tab allows for quick, one-handed deployment using your index finger. Knurling along the spine also allows for a front flipper style opening in which the blade is flicked out using your thumb. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky smooth action.
The blade is hand ground M390 stainless steel, brought to a meticulous mirror finish. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. Koji's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The 420 stainless steel handle features 8 individual inlays of blacklip mother of pearl on each side of the knife. Blacklip mother of pearl of this quality has become increasingly rare and hard to find. The pearl flashes the purples, greens, and blacks that make this pearl so desirable. Gold pins and spacers are used in the inlays. The front and rear sections of the 420 stainless steel frame are hand textured (tsuchime), providing the appearance of bolsters. The stainless steel liners are hand fileworked and textured to nicely match the frame. The fileworked and textured stainless steel backbar features four blacklip mother of pearl cabochon inlays.
This knife is accompanied by an antique kimono fabric knife pouch to protect it during storage and carry.
Excellent work throughout!
