Description: Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. In 1978, they settled in Golden, Colorado, and initially, the company focused on selling their first product: the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™ which was primarily sold at fairs and trade shows around the country. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, their innovations have earned them an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards.
The Spyderco Slym (C271TIP) is a collaboration between Spyderco and the Italian-based knife company lionSTEEL. Designed by Michele Pensato and based on his Skinny design, the Slym is a thin and refined pocket knife that would be equally at home in a collection, or out working every day. The entirety of the handle is formed from a single piece of titanium using lionSTEEL’s SOLID construction method, providing strength and a streamlined appearance. The handle sports a grey PVD coating and Polar Dark Matter FatCarbon inlay on the ‘show’ side. The flipper tab may be removed to conform to knife laws or user preference by simply removing the T6 Torx bolt. The blade pivots on caged bearings for incredibly smooth action. The pocket clip is attached to the butt of the knife and may be reversed for either left or right hand carry in the tip up position. The sturdy frame lock utilizes the titanium handle and a replaceable hardened steel lock face for strong, secure lockup.
The 3.4 inch blade is crafted from Bohler M390 stainless steel with a satin finish. M390 takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The spine of the blade has been crowned for a smooth feeling with no hot spots. A full flat grind gives the blade a remarkably sharp edge. The drop point is a perfect general-use blade shape.
Made in Maniago, Italy.
