Description: Dew (Ryuichi) Hara is the adult son of renowned knifemaker Koji Hara. Dew grew up in a knife family and naturally got involved with the knifemaking by helping his father and learning his techniques. After working in his father's workshop for over 20 years and completing an apprenticeship with Anthony Marfione, Dew decided to create his own knives. Lately he has been making some high performance kitchen knives.
The 7-1/2 inch blade features a VG-10 premium stainless steel core (hagane). This is surrounded by 67 layers of high contrast damascus. This time consuming process creates a knife with outstanding edge holding and beauty, without the brittleness of many other high performing steels. The blade features a copper titanium coating brought to a high polish. The blade is convex ground to help provide excellent food release.
Handle scales are stabilized maple set on the full tang. At just 4.2 oz, this knife is extremely light, nimble, and easy to control. Dew's touchmark is engraved into the back of the tang. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher.
Excellent work throughout!
