Description: Husband and wife team Helgard and Ida Mostert create an amazing folder. Helgard is a protégé of renowned South African knifemaker Andre Thorburn. Ida brings her exceptional engraving and scrimshaw skills. Together, they can’t be beat!
The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth, drop shut action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle. It runs on an IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This folder was made with ceramic ball bearings. Generally, IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize.
The drop point blade is hand ground Lohmann LO-R 4528 stainless steel. LO-R 4528 is a good martensitic stainless steel similar to Takefu VG-10, but has 17% chromium vs 14% in VG-10, giving it increased stain resistance. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
Handle scales are an imitation ivory called Juma made by Bachmann in Germany. The scales are meticulously scrimshawed by Ida Mostert. The scales meet perfectly with hand engraved and heat colored zirconium bolsters. Blue anodized titanium liners surround a black G-10 backspacer. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip with ball bearing retention ball is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout from a husband and wife team that is making a big impact.
