Description: Swedish knifemaker Greger Forselius has a sense of design rarely found elsewhere. This highly detailed Swedish Hunter brings together Greger's artistic and design sensibilities with flawless results.
The multi-bar damascus blade was hand forged from carbon steels by master smith Vlad Matveev. Vlad Matveev is a creative mosaic damascus bladesmith from Bryansk, Russia. The exceptional blade features a firecracker pattern at the spine and edge, surrounding a scene designed to resemble a moon floating over a dark night sea. Because the knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to prevent rust. The blade is hollow ground and razor sharp. Vlad's touchmark is on the right side of the blade.
The handle made by Greger combines crosscut mammoth ivory with stabilized Steller’s sea cow bone. Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) is an extinct, large sirenian mammal formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea. It was discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by the German naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. Through an unfortunate combination of being slow, large, and very good tasting, by 1768, less than 30 years after it had been discovered, Steller's sea cow was extinct. The combination of exotic materials creates a very elegant knife.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled leather custom sheath made by Greger is included.
Excellent work throughout!
