Description: Helle is a family company of tradition and craft located a long way from the fast lanes of the big cities. Making high quality knives has been the source of the livelihood and lifestyle among the Helle family and its artisans for more than three generations (since 1932!). The generations-old tradition has been passed on through the hands of the people in the small, picturesque village of Holmedal, Vestland Co., Norway. Helle knives are made to join you as you adventure and explore this amazing world.
The Utvaer Bushcrafting knife was developed in collaboration with Jesper Voxnaes, a Danish knife designer with a reputation for crafting beautiful and durable knives. This knife aims to meet the needs and demands for a stronger field knife, with a more modern take on design. From bushcrafting to hunting, this knife has you covered. This knife gets its name, Utvaer, from an island group in Solund Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. This island has historical significance because in 1066, King Harald Hardrade gathered his naval forces at Utvaer as he prepared for an invasion of England. He took 200 naval boats plus supply boats from Utvær and its surrounding islands and sailed to the southwest towards England.
The 4-inch drop point blade is 12C27 stainless steel, hardened to 59-60 Hrc for strength and durability. 12C27 stainless steel, made by Sandvik in Sweden, takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. It also maintains high toughness, high chip resistance, and good corrosion resistance -- it is a well-rounded choice for a hard use fixed blade. The 90 degree spine works perfectly with a ferro rod when lighting fires. The blade features a Scandi grind which is a favorite of bushcrafters and outdoorsmen world wide.
Masur birch handle scales are set on the full tang using two rivets. The rivets are pierced to allow for a lanyard setup for extra retention. The pommel extends beyond the handle which also be used to strike a ferro rod, crack open nuts, and other similar tasks. Red liners contrast elegantly against the bright birch scales.
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style leather sheath is included.
Handcrafted using traditional methods in Holmedal, Norway.
