Description: Pekka Tuominen is a custom knifemaker from Finland that focuses on Nordic style knives and high performing locking folders. His knives have clean, simple lines and excellent fit and finish. Pekka is considered one of the seven puukkomasterei or master blade smiths of Finland. He has won numerous awards for his quality work. Very few of his desirable knives make it over to the United States. We are excited to work with him on BladeGallery.
A push dagger is a small knife with a "T" shaped handle, designed to be grasped in the hand so that the blade protrudes from the front of a fist, typically between the 2nd and 3rd fingers. The push dagger has a colorful history - it is believed to have originated on the Indian subcontinent, being brought west by the British. As the empire spread (and crumbled), push daggers gained favor among riverboat gamblers in Mississippi as a boot knife and eventually found their home in the vest of gentlemen in the San Francisco gold rush. They were also popular with early American law enforcement officials. The push dagger is a unique combination of weapon and art -- a gentleman gambler's last assurance in a bygone year.
The 5-3/4 inch blade is forged from Pekka's own twist damascus combining 80CrV2, 90MnCrV8, and 15N20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The dagger ground blade is perfectly symmetrical and culminates into a razor sharp piercing tip.
The handle combines African blackwood with antiqued bronze. African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). African blackwood is among the most dense, durable woods in the world and is highly prized for its jet black appearance. The handle makes the knife easy to pull and deploy in a quick motion.
A hand tooled black leather sheath made by Pekka is included.
Excellent work throughout!
