Description: This exceptional folder is the work of Mel Pardue of Repton, Alabama. Mel was a true pioneer in the knife industry, extremely well regarded for his craft. He took his first steps into the knifemaking world in the late 50s, although he didn’t make his first actual, full custom piece until 1972. That was the same year that he met Frank Centofante, an experience that Pardue described as life-changing. Four years later, in 1976, Pardue became a full-time maker, and he’s considered one of the pioneers of the “tactical” custom knife – a style that led directly to the modern production folder as we know it today. Mel was inducted into the Blade Cutlery Hall of Fame in 2019. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2022. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. While the knife is in excellent collection, it does show some light signs of wear.
The blade is nicely centered and has smooth action. The blade can be easily opened using the right-handed thumbstud. A button lock disengages the blade.
The spear point blade is ATS-34 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. ATS-34 is high in carbon and chromium giving excellent chip resistant, edge holding, and corrosion resistance. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain cutting edge.
Handle scales are mammoth ivory. The ivory was scrimshawed by Dixon Scrimshaw with a Statue of Liberty on the show side and George Washington on the reverse. The mammoth ivory scales are fit to hand engraved stainless steel bolsters. The liners are jewel polished in the interior.
A felt pouch is included for storage and pocket carry.
This is a rare opportunity to own a knife from one of the founders of the modern knife industry.
