Description: Francois Massyn started making knives in 1989 and with the help of renowned knifemaker Fanie la Grange, he joined the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa in 1990. He currently focuses his work on slipjoints and IKBS flippers, developing his skills with the help of Andre Thorburn.
The sheepsfoot blade is hand ground 12C27 stainless steel, made by Sandvik in Sweden. This steel takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. It also maintains high toughness, high chip resistance, and good corrosion resistance -- it is a well-rounded choice for a daily use knife. The blade features a meticulous, heirloom quality hand rubbed satin finish.
Red ivory wood (Berchemia zeyheri) handle scales meet perfectly with 3Cr12 stainless steel bolsters. Red ivory is a dramatic wood from South Africa. Red Ivory trees are rare and valuable and have been rumored to be "rarer than diamonds." According to folklore, the tree is considered sacred to the Zulus in South Africa and is reserved for royalty. An oval escutcheon is inlaid into the left handle scale.
A hand stitched leather pocket slip makes it easy to keep this knife safely in your pocket until needed.
Exceptional work throughout.
