Description: This bowie was made by Donald Weiler of Yuma, Arizona. Born in 1930, Weiler was in the military from 1948 to 1968. He enlisted with the Merchant Marines followed by the Air Force. He made his first knife in 1952. He was a member of the Knifemakers Guild and a well-respected knifemaker. Unfortunately, he passed away in August of 2008.
This unique bowie was made by Weiler and ground and reprofiled by renowned knifemaker Rod Chappel. The blade is most likely 440C stainless steel. It features Chappels well-known swooping grind with a convex cutting edge for strength and durability. The clip is brought to a sharp edge. Weiler's touchmark is on the left side. Chappel's mark is on the right: ‘Reprofiled blade // by Roderick Caribou Chappell …..’ This knife was kept in a private collection by a good friend of Rod Chappel. It was meticulously cared for.and is in excellent condition.
The handle is presentation grade tiger maple. It swells at the center for a secure, comfortable grip. The guard and pommel are polished stainless steel.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched and tooled leather custom sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
