Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kiku Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. His father ran a small workshop in Seki, grinding blades for production knife makers. Kiku joined his father's business at the age of 15 and learned grinding technique from his father. Kiku's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
Kubira is the leader of Yakushi Buddha's Twelve Heavenly Guardians in Buddhism. Kikuo Matsuda's Kubira does not fall short of its namesake. The expertly balanced blade is ground in Hamaguri-ba (convex) style from Kikuo's favorite steel, OU-31 semi-stainless. It features his distinctive disruptive acid finish. The upper swedge transitions to jimping on the spine to create a large area for thumb purchase. A choil at the ricasso allows the user to choke up on the blade to do detail-oriented work.
Black G-10 handle scales are set on the full tang with torx screws. This allows the scales to be removed if cleaning or maintenance is needed. The hand sculpted handle is very comfortable and provides plenty of tactile grip.
Accompanied by hand fitted Sunloid KD sheath with DOTS belt clip.
Exceptional work throughout!
