Description: Lee Berg made his first knife when he was 12 years old, working in his grandfather's knife shop. He made knives part time as a serious hobby for over 40 years. In 1994, he retired from his profession as an aerospace artist, commercial artist and graphic design specialist, which consisted of creating artwork for several of the leading aerospace corporations in the US. Each of his knives is either forged into rough shape then hand filed, or simply hack sawed into rough shape, then hand filed into the final finished shape. Each blade is individually heat treated and tempered, one blade at a time. He believes heavily in sole authorship in his knives. This dagger has been in a private collection since it was made. Other than some minor scuffs in the blade, this knife is in new condition.
The top edge of the carbon steel blade stops just short of being fully sharpened, though it could be sharpened if desired. Lee's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle combines a spinosaurus fossil tooth with ebony and bloodwood spacers. Spinosaurus was the biggest of all the carnivorous dinosaurs - even larger than the Tyrannosaurus Rex! It lived during the Cretaceous period - between 97 and 112 million years ago. Unlike many carnosaurs, a spinosaurus tooth is smooth and rounded and would interlock similar to a crocodile. It is believe they mostly ate fish and could continually replace teeth as they broke or wore off. The handle is finished with a polished stainless steel guard.
To protect the knife during storage, a leather covered wood custom sheath made by Lee is included.
Nice work throughout!
