Description: Growing up with a passion for firearms and knives, Pasquale De Bartolomeo from Rome, Italy started making knives as a hobby in 2009. He mainly creates robust blades with a generous size, preferring to employ high performance stainless steels. Pasquale generally doesn't make knives on commission, preferring to realize his own designs according to his personal taste and depending on the predilection for certain blade types. Pasquale creates his works with only one arm because he lost the use of his left arm in a motorcycle accident in 1991. He creates exceptional work with high fit and finish. This exceptional camp knife was in a private collection and is in new condition. By all appearances, De Bartolomeo could have made it yesterday.
The large 7-3/4 inch blade is san mai featuring a core steel of SG2 premium stainless steel with supportive soft sided cladding. Super Gold 2 powdered metallurgical stainless steel is among the best edge holding stainless steels used today. The resulting damascus is high contrast and immediately captivating. The linear damascus reveals Pasquale's clean grinds. The flats of the blade are textured.
The large handle is made from a beautiful section of Arizona desert ironwood, combining heartwood and sapwood into a dramatic presentation. Ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact it is so dense, that if a piece is dropped in water it will sink! The handle was bead blasted to bring out the natural texture of the wood. A small mosaic pin adds a touch of decoration. A lanyard can be added to the rear of the handle. The ironwood meets perfectly with a textured 416 stainless steel guard.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stitched leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
