Description: I was very excited when I first got a look at Ben Akin's knives. Ben is a custom knifemaker from Washington State. His knives are exceptionally well designed and tested. His attention to detail is clearly evident in each of his creations. He is a member of the American Bladesmith Society, the Idaho Knife Association, The Oregon Knife Collectors Association, and the Montana Knifemakers Association. He both forges and stock removes his knives.
This chef's knife is a perfect choice for the cook that prefers a knife with more reach. Whether slicing, dicing, or chopping, this elegant chef's knife will make easy work of the task. It is sure to become a kitchen favorite.
The blade is high performing AEB-L stainless steel. Many knifemakers and metallurgists feel that AEB-L, with its small crystalline size, tremendous edge stability and toughness, is among the best stainless steels used in knifemaking today. AEB-L was developed for razor blades with a very fine grain structure making it easy to sharpen while maintaining good edge holding capabilities. The flat grind provides a very efficient cutting geometry. Ben's maker mark is on the left side. An edge quench combines a keen, long lasting edge with a softer, supportive spine.
The handle is presentation grade stabilized cedar burl set to a full tang. White G-10 liners Ad a nice contrast. Mosaic pins adds a bit of decoration. The handle is contoured to provide a comfortable and secure grip.
The knife is accompanied by a custom, hand tooled leather sleeve by Cindy Akin Leathercrafts, Ben's wife. It is made from premium Hermann Oak veg-tanned leather and stitched with Ritza Tiger Thread to last a lifetime.
Nice work throughout!
