Description: Mastersmith Kevin Harvey is well known for his tremendous attention to detail -- only matched by his skill at design. This large historically-inspired bowie is a dramatic example of his work. Regretfully, few of Harvey's knives make it to the US these days. I was extremely excited to be able to bring this one to the US.
The broad blade is forged from Kevin's own transition pattern damascus, combining carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding. The high contrast, deeply etched pattern is extremely engaging. The blade is convex ground for a durable, chip resistant edge. Kevin's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is skunkbush burl (Premna mooiensis), secured to the tang using bronze pins. The dramatic swirling figure of this mid-tone wood is nicely complemented by the bronze fittings. The bronze spacer, pins, and end cap are each hand engraved by Kevin. The polished engraved bronze guard finishes the handle.
To keep the knife close at hand, a sheath made by Kevin is included. The sheath features a brown ostrich overlay with a polished nickel silver throat and tip. The bronze button is hand engraved by Kevin to match the bowie.
Exceptional work throughout!
