Description: Dave Skinner brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. This Hurak Hunter is inspired by the work of Sam Lurquin.
The blade is hand forged 1070 carbon steel, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. Skinner borrowed a technique from Japanese swords and gave the blade a clay zone heat treatment. The line that travels along the blade (hamon) shows the transition between the softer, resilient spine and the keen, long lasting cutting edge. As with Japanese swords, the hamon is hand polished to bring out the dramatic transition. Jimping along the spine offers excellent thumb purchase. Dave's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. Because the blade is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is dyed and stabilized birch burl sculpted to provide a comfortable grip. The large finger choil really locks the hand in and prevents it from sliding. An antiqued nickel silver guard and spacer surround a fluted Micarta central spacer. This knife will serve you well out in the field, though it will feel right at home in any knife collection.
To keep the knife close at hand, a beautiful hand textured leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
