Description: Russ Kommer creates an amazing knife. His fit and finish is beyond compare. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances could have been made yesterday!
The boot ground blade is mirror polished RWL-34 stainless steel. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is made from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel higher strength and resistance to cracks and chips. Kommer's mark is on the left side of the blade.
Both the blade and tang on this boot knife feature a distal taper, pulling the weight toward the bolster for a perfect feel in hand. Stainless steel bolsters are dovetailed to the snakewood scales and has a perfect fit. Snakewood (Brosimum guianense) is a tremendously dense wood with a unique figure that immediately captures attention.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled leather sheath made by Mike Zaidlicz in Alaska is included.
Excellent work throughout!
