Description: Stuart Smith began making knives in 2000 after he took a class with Mastersmith Kevin Harvey. Stuart was immediately hooked and quite his job working as a salesman by 2004. Only a few years after that, in 2009, Stuart began teaching knifemaking classes of his own. Among his many students is Neels van den Berg. Stuart has been very active over the years in the Southern African Bladesmiths Association (SABA) and the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA). Stuart became an ABS journeyman smith in June of 2019. His bowie knives and hunting knives are absolutely exceptional.
The massive 14-1/3 inch damascus blade is forged from 1095 and 15n20 carbon steels to provide exceptional edge holding and chip resistance. The laddered Ws pattern is high contrast and extremely engaging. The long clip stops just short of being fully sharpened. Stuart's mark is on the right side of the blade and his J.S. mark is on the left side.
The handle is fluted bone, secured to the tang using six pins. The stainless steel fittings are eggshell textured. The S-guard is perfectly fit to the handle and blade. The fluted handle provides excellent grip and an elegant appearance.
A high quality custom sheath made from cowhide and inlaid with ostrich shin leather is included.
Excellent work throughout!
