Description: Jeremy Yelle is a 22 year old up-and-coming maker out of Quebec, Canada. His current focus is high performance kitchen knives, bowie knives, and hunting knives. He received his Journeyman smith award at Blade Show 2022. His work is exceptional and he is sure to be a maker to keep an eye on.
This exceptional bowie was part of Yelle's JS test. When a maker tests to become a journeyman, they create five knives that are the height of their work. These five knives are then judged by established masters to determine if the maker's work is up to snuff. Often, prospective journeymen spend 2-3 times as long creating these five knives as they would generally do, as they know that their work will be poured over by the masters. These five knives are generally considered to be among the most collectable knives of a maker's career.
The blade is hand forged 80CrV2 carbon steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. 80CrV2 carbon steel is tough, chip resistant, and has excellent wear resistance. The top clip stops just short of being fully sharpened. Jeremy's mark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is Tasmanian blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon). This dramatic wood is an Acacia species native in South eastern Australia. It has a dramatic figure similar to curly koa and ringed gidgee (also Acacia species). The blackwood is heirloom fit to the antiqued mild steel guard and end cap.
The knife feels exceptional in hand and has a great balance. Excellent work throughout!
