Description: We were very excited to first meet Jarrett Cieslak at the 2021 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA. Cieslak is an exceptional young bladesmith that is clearly a maker to watch. We anticipate that he will become 'one of the greats'.
At 15 years old, back in 2013, Jarrett began making knives after encountering blacksmithing videos on YouTube. He was immediately hooked. Between 2014 and 2016, he received a machining certificate from Harford Community College and was awarded welding certifications from Earlbeck Welding. This continuing education (along with hours and hours of hammering) gave him an understanding of how he could merge these experiences with his blacksmithing. In 2018, he attended an ABANA conference in Richmond, VA, where he was encouraged to join the American Bladesmith Society. Jarrett takes great pride in his craft, from forging the steel, to fit and finish, to personally hand stitching every sheath. His artistry stems from the love of transforming raw materials into a high performance knife that is sure to be passed down through generations.
The karambit is originally from the Indonesian archipelago and has found its way throughout Southeast Asia. Primarily used in the ancient world as a do-it-all knife, the modern renditions of this versatile tool have steadily gained popularity and respect within the tactical world of knives.
The karambit style claw blade is hand forged 52100 carbon steel, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. 52100 is considered by man makers and knife users to be among the highest performing steels used in modern knives. Cieslak's makers mark (a stylized beard) is set on the left side of the ricasso.
The contoured handle is made from stabilized and dyed redwood burl. It locks your fingers securely between the beak and stainless steel guard. The wood handle and blade are perfectly fit to the stainless steel guard. The handle is broad, providing a comfortable grip through hours of work.
The knife is accompanied by a custom, hand stitched leather sheath.
Excellent work throughout.
