Description: We were excited when Australian bladesmith Jason Heinemann reached out to ask if BladeGallery would represent his work. Jason clearly has an eye for the small details and is tremendously skilled in the forge. Jason began taking his bladesmithing career to the next level after taking classes at Australian bladesmithing school Tharwa Valley Forge in 2018 where he learned to create and refine complex damascus patterns. He currently prefers to make one-of-a-kind art knives with a focus on bowie knives, fighters, and daggers. This massive dagger is an impressive display of craftsmanship and could easily be the center of any collection!
The blade is hand forged from Jason's own damascus, combining 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels. It is a complex damascus, combining 1084 and 15N20 damascus sides, with a thicker layer of 1084 and 15N20, followed by a central damascus core. The combination is both high performance and exceptionally dramatic. It features a symmetrical grind with a fuller (blood groove) in the center of the blade. Daggers are among the hardest knives to grind -- any flaw in symmetry becomes immediately noticeable.
The central column of the handle is ancient wooly mammoth ivory. The elegant hand fluting provides excellent grip. Each of the flutes are inlaid with twisted 14K gold wire. The guard, ferrule, and pommel are matching hot blued mild steel. The pommel is completed with a hand faceted section of mammoth molar. The mammoth tooth is secured with a 6mm stainless steel threaded stud. Showing tremendous attention to detail, the pommel can be twisted to fully disassemble the dagger if cleaning, maintenance, or repair is ever needed.
To keep the dagger close at hand, a handmade leather wrapped wood sheath by Shane Partridge of Blacks Blades is included.
Exceptional work throughout!
